Meet the faces behind the Punktured studio:

Eliott

Eliott - Manager

Read Eliott’s bio

I’m Eliott, I’ve worked at Punktured for 11 years now. I used to visit Punktured when I was studying at Sussex University, and loved it so much that when a receptionist role came up, I jumped at the chance.

Over the next few years, I trained to pierce, and in 2019 I was offered the opportunity to take over daily managerial duties of the shop, which I have enjoyed ever since.

My favourite thing about the job is getting to help customers feel comfortable about something they may be initially nervous of, and helping them bring their ideas to life. I’m also super lucky to work in such a great team that aren’t only colleagues, but also friends. My favourite piercing to perform is a septum.

Outside of work I’m a big music and film geek, especially horror movies. You’ll usually find me relaxing with a big milky tea and a slasher film on.

Hi, I’m Ara! I’m originally from London, which is where I was trained to pierce. I moved down to Brighton about a year and a half ago, and I adore it!

I’ve been piercing for about 5 years, and I’ve worked in a few different-style places, ranging from an independent tattoo and piercing studio to a luxury solid gold and gemstone studio.

Hi, my name is Jacob, and I started working at Punktured in 2022.

I have always had a strong interest in body modification since a young age and would always come to Punktured to be pierced during my teenage years.

Emily

Emily - Receptionist

My name is Emily, and I’ve been doing front-of-house at Punktured for over 13 years.

My main interest in Punktured is the jewellery side of the shop, from the metals to what’s popular at any particular time. The reason for this is I started jewellery making at the age of 17 and went on to study a degree in Jewellery and Silversmithing.

And when I’m not in Punktured, you’ll find me in my workshop.

Grayson

Grayson - Receptionist & Social Media Manager

Hi, my name is Grayson. I joined the Punktured team in 2022 and have enjoyed every day of the job since. From a young age, I was obsessed with self-expression and body modification. I remember even getting my very first professional piercing done at Punktured in 2014!

From that point forward, I made it my goal to join the industry, and I haven’t looked back since.

As for the big question we all get, my favourite piercing is a septum—my own has become a bit of a staple for me!

Leanne

Leanne - Receptionist

Hi, I’m Leanne! I’ve loved piercings for as long as I can remember; since the age of 13, I’ve built my collection to 35 piercings total (of course, still more to come).

I have worked at Punktured for 7 years, since 2018! I love working here because of the joy and confidence we bring people and to be able to assist in their self-expression, whatever it may be!

Our founder

Hi, I’m Julie – the owner and founder of Punktured. I am often asked what made me get into piercing. I should be honest and say that it was by complete accident. Before working in piercing, I was a licensee of a pub/club in Brighton’s West Street. Eventually, I fell out of love with the job and decided that I needed a change. I always had a love for the art of piercing (and Biology!), so I decided to pursue an apprenticeship with a local piercer in Brighton. After completing training and working as a piercer for four years, Julie opened Punktured on Friday 13th August 1999 – unlucky for some but not for us.

In 2018 - while still handling lots of the background nitty-gritty - Julie decided to take a step back from the everyday running of Punktured. This was when she handed the reins over to Elliot. A former piercer and receptionist in the shop, under Elliot’s leadership, we have gone from strength to strength. We really could not be prouder of him!

A couple of other things that people may not know about us – but that we are very proud of – are:

  • Julie wrote the current skin piercing bylaws for Brighton and Hove City Council.
  • She has also been interviewed on various radio and TV programmes.
  • She has lectured at Chichester University and Brighton City College.
