Lip & Cheek Piercing

Lips and cheeks present all sorts of possibilities! Can be pierced with a B.C.R. or barbell / labret stud - vertical or horizontal. Can be pierced on the upper / lower lip, centred or off centred.

Salivary glands are situated externally on the bones on the face, therefore piercing through these is impossible.

Aftercare Information for Lip and Cheek Piercings

Aftercare for lip and cheek piercings is vitally important. Please read the following information carefully to ensure that the risk of infection is minimised.

* Rinse with a saline solution or a low alcohol, antiseptic mouthwash such as 'Colgate Periogard', twice a day and after eating to prevent infection.

* The external hole will need cleaning with salty water or saline solution twice a day for at least four months. You can make your own saline solution using one litre of boiled water and one teaspoon of unbleached sea salt.

* Do not smoke or drink alcohol for at least three weeks after your piercing.

* Please refrain from any kissing (including oral sex) for at least three weeks.

* Do not pick at scabs as this can cause unnecessary bleeding. Scabs prevent entry of bacteria which might cause infection; scabs will fall away when ready.

* Punktured pierces with a long labret stud or oversized ring to allow for initial swelling. Bring your information sheet back in six weeks and we will exchange the jewellery for that of an appropriate size.

* During the healing process, do not take the jewellery out to clean. If prolonged or major irritation occurs, consult your GP.

* Punktured recommends waiting at least six weeks before you change the jewellery.

Inside the mouth, enzymes present in saliva help lip and cheek piercings fight infection. Healing times vary from person to person depending on many factors such as diet, lifestyle and stress. If you are concerned at all, contact us and we will be happy to help and answer any questions you may have.
