Ear Piercing

Can be pierced with 1.2, 1.6 or 2.4 mm jewellery. The ear lobe is rich in blood vessels which means there's a good supply of nutrients to the area. Healing of ear lobe piercings tend to be quick and, if wanted, stretching can usually start after 6 months.

The fibrous / cartilage part of the ear doesn't have its own blood supply so it recieves blood cells, nutrients and oxygen by osmosis through the matrix. Therefore although infection is not more likely to occur in cartliage piercings, if infection does take hold it may be more difficult to treat and may cause scarring. Cleaning of ear cartilage piercings is vital and any changes in its appearance should be checked by a piercer or pharmacist as soon as possible.

Aftercare Information for Ear Piercings

Aftercare for body piercings is vitally important. Please read the following information carefully to ensure that the risk of infection is minimised.

* Do not touch the piercing on the first day.

* The entrance holes will need cleaning with a saline solution twice a day for at least four months. You can make your own saline solution using one litre of boiled water and one teaspoon of unbleached sea salt.

* Do not pick at scabs as this will cause unnecessary bleeding. Scabs prevent entry of bacteria which could cause infection; scabs will fall away when ready.

* During the healing process, do not take the jewellery out to clean. If prolonged or major irritation occurs, consult your GP.

* Punktured recommends waiting at least four months before changing the jewellery.

Healing times vary from person to person depending on many factors such as diet, lifestyle and stress. If you are concerned at all, contact us and we will be happy to help and answer any questions you may have.
